a: the act of looking forward ; especially : pleasurable expectation

b: visualization of a future event or state

I recently returned from a family vacation in Florida. The anticipation of leaving this winter climate was high. The anticipation of leaving the hourly news updates and the doom and gloom was very necessary. The list of what I dread about winters in the Midwest is long and probably very similar to yours! Living in anticipation can lead the mind to envision a world far away from the present. Indeed, Florida is a far away destination. Arriving through the jet way was like being transported into the spring season. Feeling warmth of the air, sand between the toes, the sight of blue sky sunshine and vivid, colorful landscape, the sound of birds, waves and yes, lawn mowers! Confirmation that landscapers are actually working in beautiful environments was a gloriously relief. If their out working in Florida, than surely there will be work here. Doubts and worries about spring begin to fade.

Indeed these sensations and visions fueled my anticipation for the long awaited spring of 2009. I have come back to the Midwest and the climate is slowly changing. There will be a spring, as there always has been. As I sit in the office and write this blog, the telephone rings of inquiries. The homeowners and contractors are anticipating spring gardening projects. Now I am anticipating sales….lots and lots of sales! Spring is a time of renewal, gratitude, optimism and hope. Turn off the radio, TV and the pessimism. Let your mind ANTICIPATE!

An optimist is the human personification of spring.
